Brisbane, also known by its Indigenous Turrbal and Yagara names—Meanjin, Meaanjin, Maganjin, or Magandjin—is the capital and largest city of Queensland, Australia. As the third-most populous city in the country, Brisbane is home to approximately 2.8 million residents, with the greater metropolitan area exceeding 4 million. Located near the midpoint of Australia’s eastern coastline, the city’s central business district is positioned on a peninsula along the Brisbane River, roughly 15 kilometers from its mouth at Moreton Bay.
